We get a lot of Google hits on how to convince your Ambot husband to quit Amway at the top of the search results the last time I checked though I’m sure IBOFB will do his own investigation and find out that someone has since topped this blog.
That tells me there are a lot of desperate wives surfing the Internet who are fed up with the Amway bullshit.
This page on the blog being hit has a couple of stories copied from elsewhere on theInternet about a couple of fed up wives who left their husbands, about 7 years apart who had almost identical stories. Neither story actually gives advice on how to convince your husband to quit Amway. They did what they had to do to protect themselves, their family, their finances, and their sanity. I’m not here to put any drastic ideas into wife’s heads. Women who’ve reached that point already know what they have to do to protect themselves.
FYI - if you go to our above blog post the links to the web pages referenced there are no longer active. Good thing for copy and paste!
I can’t offer substantial advice either other than wait it out and hope your husband is one of the majority who leaves Amway within the year when he finally figures out he’s not making any money. Everyone has different tolerance levels and bank account balances. What pisses off one woman might have little effect on another. Mostly what really pisses off women is the attitude adjustment their husband goes through due to involvement in the Amway cult. Sweet, sensitive husbands are turned into angry, ugly, sneering creatures who constantly criticize everyone who is not in Amway or supporting their Amway business.
What can the wife do? Not meaning to be sexist here but generally it’s the man who got scammed into Amway not the woman and when this post was written it was written as though talking to other women. However over the years there have been men leaving comments here about their wife or girlfriend who’s an Amway Ambot. Rather than rewrite this just imagine any male references can be transferred to a female. Him/her he/she. You get the picture. Here’s some suggestions that might help break a husband (or wife) of his (her) Amway habit.
1. Tell him dinner will now be served at 8pm each night. Be at the dinner table or go hungry. (He might launch a counter-attack by purchasing excessive amounts of Amway food bars to eat on the run.)
2. Whenever he has an Amway meeting planned tell him that you have sex pencilled in on the calendar for 8pm that night.
3. On Amway meeting nights host a party at your house. Even if its just a small gathering of family or friends. It will probably turn into an Amway bitch session.
4. Plan fun outings on nights when Amway meetings are on.
5. Book a night at a romantic hotel - something like a spa resort - on an Amway meeting night. Be prepared to go alone and enjoy a massage.
6. Tell him if he can’t be home by 10pm when you’re going to bed that he better not wake you up when he gets home and tell him to sleep in the spare bedroom or on the couch.
7. Start researching on the Internet how other people have been victims of the Amway scam. Knowledge is power.
8. Ask your husband if he’s aware that the income from tools is the main source of income for higher level pins. He needs to sponsor and keep active at least 100 IBO’s before he starts to make a profit. Most won’t even be able to sign up one downline.
9. Share with him some of the stories you’ve read on the Internet about people who’ve spent years and tens of thousands of dollars and still aren’t making money.
On the last 3 be prepared for him to launch a defensive counter attack full of Amway speak about how its not true.
For the rest of them hopefully the husband eventually realizes he’s missing out on some good stuff and it might be more fun doing those activities than going to an Amway meeting.
Consistency. Don’t let him win the Amway fight.
Here’s a few more additions from the comments left the first time the blog post appeared that could be helpful:
1. Start keeping a profit and loss sheet. Any spreadsheet on your computer like Excel will do. This can be very simple. In the first column you write down every time an Amway expense or income occurs and name it what it is like “bought Amway products March 8” or “check received from Amway on April 14”. The next 2 columns label one “expenses” and the next one “income”. In this hypothetical spreadsheet, next to the Amway products bought on March 8, enter in $583.67 under the column for expenses. Next to the check received from Amway on April 14 enter in $9.58 in the column for income. And so on for everything Amway related. Obviously you’d be using actual dates and dollar amounts. At the end of the month total up the 2 columns. Under expenses the total will be around $1,000. The income will still be $9.58. The difference between the two amounts will be your profit or your loss. In the case of Amway it will always be a loss. Start a sheet for the next month. Keep it going. Amway cult leaders forbid the Ambots from keeping a profit and loss ledger in order to distract them from how much money they’re losing. That doesn’t mean the spouse can’t keep a P&L and force the other one to look at how much money they’re losing.
2. Get your ducks in a row. That means you make an appointment with a lawyer to make sure you know your rights - does he pay the rent/mortgage and pay support, etc and if there’s any chance that a cult member could get custody of a child. Just because you know your rights and it gives you something to think about, that doesn’t mean that you need to move forward with legal action. Depending on your situation you may be eligible for free legal advice. Some lawyers will also do a half hour or an hour session at a hugely reduced rate. Google legal aid for your state.
3. If you have a joint bank account that Amway is draining it’s time to get a separate bank account. All couples fight about money. Have a talk about finances. Decide who’s paying what when it comes to household expenses and you better be sure you’re the one taking care of making sure the mortgage and rent is being paid. At Amway meetings, cult leaders tell anyone who says they can’t afford to attend the next Amway function to skip paying the rent or mortgage.
Memo to all: NEVER take financial advice from fucking Amway assholes! People in Amway are a bunch of broke losers.
